Everything Everywhere All At Once (Spoilers)

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a movie that gave me goosebumps more than once throughout the film. Everything Everywhere All at Once is a reality bending cinema masterpiece, that has carved its way into my heart forever. I am a huge fan of alternate universes and alternate realities, I’m a firm believer that one small step creates a ripple throughout reality and, I also feel as if déjà vu‘s are moments where you have made a different decision than a counterpart self, thus creating a timeline split. With that being said; watching this movie validated my ideas and theories all at once (haha).
The web of ideas is captured and presented to the audience in such a simplistic way that even the complicated methodology of inter-dimensional realities can be understood by the least scholarly person. It will send you on a journey that will successfully blow your mind while pulling at your heart strings simultaneously. It explores the story of a woman whose mind is constantly running, so much so that she’s unknowingly fleeing from her own loved ones. Fleeing from the reality of her world so much that her own daughter had to damn near break the universe to get her to see her. This journey into the depth of self, and space will make you question your own reality. I found myself wondering, even more so than I already do, what small things have I done that have shifted my reality this way? What are my alternate selves like? Questions that truly show how invested I was into this movie.
The cast is absolutely amazing not one person seems awkward in their character and no one seemed like they didn’t fit. Stephanie Hsu’s role as the daughter and the main antagonist was done masterfully, there are scenes where she shifts from being the innocent daughter who just wants to be understood into the chaos driven Jobu Tupaki and that shift really brought me joy. A soft jerk of the head and a soft smirk, and our villain has arrived. Though very subtle, it is very noticeable because Ms. Hsu knew her role, and she played it well,
The way that the film seamlessly intertwined different realities while maintaining a story that was easy to follow and hilarious too was great. It’s a serious story with an intricate plot that doesn’t take itself too serious. There are constant references of googly eyes and even an alternate reality where somehow everyone has evolved with hotdogs for fingers. These are just a few scenes that were absolutely absurd about the movie but still not so absurd that it takes you out of the world that they’ve built for you. Each of them had me surprised and bursting with laughter. Every minute that I watched I was pleasantly surprised by what came next, anticipating every turn like a happy go lucky rollercoaster patron.
I don’t believe I’ve ever had my mind blown that many times in one sitting. Nor have I seen a move attack this subject in this manner so seamlessly. If you love Rick and Morty and how they play with time and space, or even if you love beautiful coming of age mother daughter tales of reconnecting this movie has something for you. Do yourself a huge favor and run to your nearest theater and see Everything Everywhere All at Once. Now!
