Wanna be a Cult Leader? (Cult of The Lamb Review)

Massive Monsters Cult of the Lamb is a cute rogue-like dive into being a cult leader. You fight your way through various dungeons to gain new materials, blueprints, and most important, new followers for your cult. You’ll complete rituals and tasks for those followers which will increase, or decrease their loyalty based on their attributes. More followers mean more strength and more strength means no one questions the Lamb!

After amassing over 118 days (in game) I still find myself oddly addicted to building my cult to its full fruition, I’m giddy every time I see a new follower form, and the rituals never get old: You’d think seeing a cute little deer being devoured by a tentacle would eventually get old, but it doesn’t. At all. Ever. There are also less murderous ways to sacrifice your followers like Ascending them to the great beyond but who doesn’t love tentacles? Each new cult level allows you to update your farm, your shrines, and your followers’ homes. This comes in handy seeing as each follower has a level as well, and the higher the level the higher the yield for loyalty will be when it comes time to sacrifice, devour, ascend, or have a funeral your ur devoted followers. These high-level followers also come in handy when running short on supplies as they can go on missionary journeys to gather more materials if need be. Its also pretty cool to see your followers become friends and sometimes even fall in love, cause then you can marry them if you're into that kinda thing. I personally chose fights club over marriage when given that choice but i digress.

The dungeon crawling in this game is a blast and is truly where this game shines. Each dungeon is comprised of 4 dungeons that will eventually each lead you to a boss. The mechanics are smooth, and the fights are challenging. You will often be put in a room with 5-7 foes or more and you will have to use your wits, and reflexes to prevail through each room to gain enough power to eventually reach and defeat the boss of the area. Every win is satisfying, and the story which I don’t want to ruin is pretty damn good so far. All these things make this game a blast and a half to play.

Cult of the Lamb is an indie breath of fresh air with hellfire under its ass. Much needed in a time where people are so hung up on remakes and remasters of old games, which I love by the way, but having something new and one of a kind like this makes Massive Monster a real contender in the gaming world. With that being said it is a complete bummer that console is not compatible with the twitch integration, my 118 days played would be so much more fun with my twitch buddies in tow but alas console is treated like a stepchild again. Even with its neglect for consoles in that sense it is still worth a damn devilish good time.
